Betting Analysis: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski
Former PRIDE Champion and current WAMMA Heavyweight title holder, Fedor Emelianenko is set to square off against former UFC Champion Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski. The odds for this fight completely blow (-365 is some BS)…but…we are action junkies so we’re in.
Still, this fight blows in terms of betting value. This is Fedor Emelianenko we are talking about, so we look at this like more of an investment than anything.
The main storyline going into this fight besides the mystique behind Fedor has been how unbelievable Arlovski’s boxing skills are. Apparently if you train with Freddy Roach, your boxing skills will become so incredible that you can beat Fedor. Many don’t know this, but Freddy Roach actually trained Rocky Balboa for his fight against Ivan Drago. They just cut him out of the all the scenes from that popular documentary, Rocky IV. Freddy Roach is the shit.
But while both are Russian badasses, Drago is no Fedor. While Arlovski’s standup may be good, in order to beat Fedor, he better bring more to the table than just boxing skills. In fact, he better bring the entire kitchen table and the sink. In Arlovski’s last fight against Ben Rothwell, it was like he was fighting “Glass Joe” for God’s sake….any punch he threw he landed. Ben Rothwell was a complete fish who made Arlovski look REALLY good. We can promise you this won’t be the case versus Fedor.
Fedor is simply amazing. Every time we watch this guy fight he does something extraordinary. The thing that separates Fedor from everyone else is how ridiculously well rounded he is. Although unconventional, his striking ability is vicious and his grappling abilities are the best we have ever seen. It seems like he is choking somebody out or arm barring somebody every fight. The kryptonite for Arlovski in this fight will be his ground game. It’s no secret that his ground skills are shaky and we expect Fedor to expose him. Once the fight hits the ground it will be extremely tough for Arlovski to avoid a submission.
Bottom line, Fedor is the better fighter. Everyone knows that. Let’s not forget this is the same Andrei Arlovski who lost to Tim Sylvia twice. Yes, the same Tim Sylvia who Fedor dismantled in about 30 seconds. In the end, Fedor will get this fight to the ground and crush any dreams that Arlovski had of becoming WAMMA champ. It feels like a lot of people are buying into the hype around Arlovski…..but we’re staying the course and going with Fedor.
