UFC 97 Gambling Recap
Overall UFC 97 was fucking awful. The fights totally sucked and we ended up breaking even. Under no circumstances should you ever be pissed about a push, but considering how shitty the fights were it felt more like a loss.
Quick Recap:
Luiz Cane vs. Steve Cantwell ended up being much closer than we thought. Cantwell was tough as nails and showed a lot of heart. In the end, Cane did enough to grind out the decision victory. Up $150 out the gates.
Krzysztof Soszynski vs.Brian Stann played out exactly how we predicted. The veteran fighter outsmarted the UFC newcomer and got the submission victory. We pocketed $200. 2 for 2 and up $350..great start to the night.
We tried to make a hero pick in the Cheick Kongo vs Antoni Hardonk fight by going with the underdog and it cost us a $150. Cheick completely dominated and he looked poised to make a run at the Heavyweight title. It always sucks to loss a $150 but given the odds we got it felt ok. 3 fights in and we were up $200.
New MMAFIX rule. Never bet on Chuck Liddell. We were burned for the second time in a row betting on the Iceman and this won hurt bad. $600 bad. This was definitely the “regret pick” of the night. The public was all over Chuck and we should have known better. No excuses here. Suddenly we were down $400 and the best we could do was push for the night.
Anderson Silva once again came through for us in the clutch. When we needed the Spider most he dominated. The fight was never in doubt and it kind of made us wonder why we didn’t bet more. The $400 dollar win gave us the push for the night and ended a really shitty night of fights.
Let’s shake this one off and look forward to a profitable UFC 98.
