Fresh off cruising to a first round submission win over Mark Hunt last night at Dream 9, Gegard Mousasi has confirmed he will fight Vitor Belfort at Affliction’s upcoming August 1st event. In an interview posted on M-1 Global’s official site, the Armenian fighter, who despite being one of the world’s best fighters could probably attend a UFC after party without getting noticed, stated that the rumors regarding a pending bout with Belfort “are true.” (Thanks to Five Ounces of Pain for the heads up)
Mousasi has lost just twice in his career despite having fought nearly 30 times, and holds wins over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Denis Kang and Melvin Manhoef.
Belfort has finally begun to make his cult following happy once again after years of disappointment, (a group which in the late 1990’s rivaled that of Bruce Campbell’s) and has won 4 of his last 5 five fights. Last time out in January, Belfort knocked out Matt Lindland so badly, that apparently upon awakening the former, aspiring politician, briefly considered running again for Congress.
