GSP Admits Injury Was “Pretty Bad”

Saturday night, UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre demonstrated once again why he is among the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters, cruising to a Unanimous Decision victory over challenger Thiago Alves. After the third round, however, a concerned looking GSP returned to his corner and informed coach Greg Jackson that he had pulled his groin, to which Jackson responded with one of the funniest lines ever uttered in the Octagon, “I don’t care, hit him with your groin.” (A line, however, that has likely been yelled many a time by drunken comedians attending unsanctioned MMA events in run down meat packing plants.

After the fight GSP acknowledged that the injury was extremely serious (Thanks to MMAWeekly for the tip)

It’s pretty bad; I’m in real bad pain. It happened in the third round, and I don’t remember exactly, but when I was on the bottom, in my guard, and Thiago pushed my knee down and I heard my groin, my abductor snap. I heard a noise and it was pretty bad.

Wow. That’s a disgusting, makes you flinch story. More impressively, if not for the comment to Jackson which was heard on camera, one might have had a tough time telling that the champion was hurting in the fourth and fifth rounds, as he continued to dominate Alves. It would appear that even a rapidly deteriorating groin won’t stand in the way of a GSP victory. That says a lot, and doesn’t bode well for future, fearful opponents, who had planned on kicking the champ in the balls by ‘accident.’
