Shawn Tompkins Speaks Out About Junie Browning

Details continue to emerge about Junie Browning’s arrest at a Las Vegas Hospital Tuesday night, an unfortunate incident, which Yahoo Sports! is reporting has led to the fighter’s dismissal from the UFC. After the former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor was admitted to the hospital, for reportedly attempting to commit suicide by ingesting between 16-20 pills of his anti-anxiety medication, Browning allegedly assaulted three nurses while trying to escape the facility.

Speaking to Fighters Only Magazine, Browning’s coach and friend, Xtreme Couture’s Shawn Tompkins, continues to defend his student, stating that the fighter’s actions were a result of Browning’s overdose. An emotional Tompkins added:

“He was released and will be here in my home with my wife and I and we will care for him. This was not a cry for help, Junie tried to end his life. People on the forums treat fighters like we’re cartoon characters, but it’s not like that, we are human. This is his life and I feel like I almost lost a son last night”.

Browning was nearly kicked off the eighth season of TUF due to several violent outbursts, but after joining Xtreme Couture, it was widely reported that the fighter had turned his life around. According to an updated story by Fighters Only, Browning recently stated on his Facebook account that he had sought out psychiatric help.

Browning went 1-1 in official UFC action with a win over Dave Kaplan and a loss coming against Cole Miller.
