Anderson Silva Ain’t Fighting in UFC 109 Either
Wtf is up with Anderson Silva’s elbow?
The UFC middleweight champ had some bone chips removed from his right elbow last month. He was scheduled to fight in UFC 108, but due to the elbow issue had to push the fight. Now, as first reported by MMA Junkie, Silva is backing out of his UFC 109 headliner bout against Vitor Belfort as the elbow is taking its dear sweet time to heal.
There is some speculation (read a good summary here) that the real issue is Silva wants a number one contender bout against either Dan Henderson or Nate Marquardt. With both of those options currently off the table (due to contract disputes and an already scheduled alternative fight, respectively), it may be awhile before Silva gets his wish there.
So is the real issue Silva’s elbow or something else? And more importantly, who are we going to be wagering on for UFC 109 now?
