Jon Fitch to Fight Mike Pierce at UFC 107

fitch gsp

Yesterday, we noted that the UFC roster has been hit by a ton of injuries lately, and it got us thinking, they should consider making a new reality TV show called “Octagon ER.” Think about it. They could follow around fighters and explore how they got injured, what the treatment will entail; ratings for episodes featuring staph infections would be through the roof. No? No good?

Today the UFC has confirmed that Mike Pierce, rather than the injured Thiago Alves, will now fight Jon Fitch at UFC 107 on December 12th. Originally Fitch was supposed to fight jiu-jitsu wiz Ricardo Almeida at UFC 106 later this month, which would have been a pretty good fight, except Almeida blew out his knee.

Then came word that Alves would get his long awaited rematch with Fitch (the AKA fighter stopped Alves in 2006), which gave MMA nerds like ourselves cause for celebration, as despite their respective losses to GSP, both guys are still at the top of the 170lb. pile. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be…

So if you’re asking yourself who the hell is Mike Pierce, don’t worry, you’re probably not alone. (Especially if you’re MMA diet is limited to the UFC) Pierce recently made his UFC debut in September, and blew a lot of people’s minds in defeating Brock Larson by UD. The loss was only Larson’s third, in an impressive career that has seen him chalk up 26 wins. The only other men to beat Larson are Carlos Condit, and get ready for it… Jon Fitch.
