After tapping out Anthony Johnson at UFC 106 Saturday night, Josh Koscheck dove right into a post-fight, smack-talk rant directed at Dan Hardy, stating that there’s no way the British slugger is the number one contender. (Did anyone else wonder what Mike Swick was probably thinking, when his buddy Koscheck stated Hardy hasn’t fought anyone like ‘me’?) Well, it looks as though the speech has fallen on ‘oh Josh, here you go again’ ears, as the UFC is clearly intent on moving forward with the Hardy, GSP match-up sometime next spring.
Speaking to MMA Weekly, though, Koscheck had this to say about the fact that he won’t be getting a shot at Hardy in the immediate future (or a rematch with GSP right away, afterall, it wasn’t that long ago that Koscheck was served up a healthy dose of humble pie by the current champ):
“(Dan Hardy’s) not gonna happen, I’m just gonna fight. I already told Joe Silva I’m ready to fight. Hopefully I can get 10 to 12 fights next year.”
Nothing wrong with that; there’s no way he’s going to get 10 fights from the UFC, but props to ‘Kos’ for his eagerness. Now Koscheck’s pleas for a title shot are immature; not only has he already lost to GSP, but he also was defeated by Thiago Alves just over one year ago, another dude that got swept away by the champ. But taking out Johnson was damn impressive and there’s no doubt that Koscheck deserves another bout with a top guy. Matt Hughes? Just not willing to go there huh?
