“The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” Ep. 10 Recap

Rolling into episode 10 another semifinalist was to be decided, as last week not only did Roy Nelson eke by Justin Wren in the first quarterfinal, “Big Country” managed to annoy the hell out of Dana White again. What happened in this week’s awe inspiring episode? Read on…
Yet again much of the show’s opening moments surrounded Matt “Aren’t I Mysterious” Mitrione, who continues to maintain that his “brain hurts,” following his win over Scott Junk. First, Rashad Evans tactfully called Mitrione out on the issue of whether or not he wants to fight again, and even after another ‘are you an effen fighter’ speech by White to all the competitors, Mitrione hasn’t decided either way. Of course, during all this, Kimbo Slice got his hopes up that he might get to “bang” again, but a bum knee is raising questions as to whether he can fight.
This episode also featured the ‘seasonal’ coaches competition, where either Evans or Rampage Jackson would win 10 grand each, with an additional $1,500 going to each member of the winning team. Would it be lawn darts? Frolf? Nope. Beach volleyball at LV’s Palm Casino Resort. In then end, Evans and his assistant coach Mike Van Arsdale were the victors over Jackson and Tiki Ghosn. No one will be rewinding the show to watch this game’s footage again; that’s for damn sure.
As for the fight, Brendan Schaub took on the experienced wrestler Jon Madsen, who in the first round pulled off several rag doll takedowns and controlled nearly all the action. In round two, Schaub managed to defend Madsen’s early takedown attempts, and with pretty much the bout’s only telling strike, he dropped Madsen with a cracking straight right, prompting the ref to jump in. Impressive.
