The final bout of the opening round marked this week’s episode of TUF, and if you’ve been following the show you know that the lives of the gym doors are under constant threat, courtesy “Rampage” Jackson. Why? Because Coach Quinton’s squad has won nadda to date…would this be the show? (Spoilers full steam ahead)
A few ongoing themes have appeared through the course of TUF 10, meaning that every time you tune in, you know you’re going to see the following: 1) Rampage and Rashad Evans having a heated argument in a hallway, 2) Rampage and Darrill Schoonover nearly coming to blows after Jackson calls him “titties” (although this week had a twist as Jackson actually grabbed Schoonover’s chest- no it wasn’t a ‘titty twister’). This episode was no different.
As far as the bout, Team Rampage’s Marcus Jones took on Team Evan’s Mike Wessel, to no doubt determine whether or not another of the gym’s doors would live to see another day. Wessel came out firing, and as the fighter’s clinched, he tried to trip Jones to the mat. The monstrous NFL vet reversed the attempt, however, and threw Wessel down. Jones briefly took Wessel’s back, but after losing the position, he tapped Wessel out with a nicely timed armbar from his guard. Team Rampage is finally on the board. 1-7.
As the coaches and Dana White met with the fighters to see who they wanted to fight in the quarterfinals, the UFC boss man explains that Roy Nelson “rubs him the wrong way.” Huh. Not much has changed since the taping of the show evidently. And oh yeah, next week’s preview hinted that Kimbo Slice might get back in the mix…we’ll believe it when we see it.
