Georges St. Pierre was his typical ass-kicking self at UFC: 87.

If this was baseball, MMA Fix would be legendary.

Or in other words, two out of three ain’t bad.

Admittedly, not that you could see it or anything, but we were questioning our Roger Huerta pick via text messages to each other on Saturday. And in our Kenny Florian post yesterday, we almost threw a, “We may be changing our pick to Kenny Florian…” in there.

Still, getting Huerta at underdog money wasn’t bad value. And ultimately we decided stick with the logic of our initial pick, Kenny Florian’s confidence and sharp elbows be damned. (read our original prediction here)

As for the rest, Georges St. Pierre (prediction here) and Brock Lesnar (prediction here) did what they were supposed to do and held up their end of the bargain, defeating Jon Fitch and Heath Herring, respectively.

So the MMA Fix UFC: 87 gambling recap: With the $1,000 wagers on GSP and Huerta a wash, and with the Lesnar win, if you followed our picks, you’d be up $250 for the weekend.

Now go spend that cash on your favorite vice.

This fight is all about Brock Lesnar.

When we last saw Lesnar, he looked like a bear mauling Frank Mir. He was DESTROYING Frank Mir. He was on his way to a stoppage within the first minute before Steve Mazzagatti’s mustache stopped the fight and gave Mir a chance. Then, Brock stands up, throws two lightning quick puches, drops Mir with a right to the chin and continues the bear mauling. Imagine the hype for this fight if Lesnar finishes Mir with ground and pound right there. He would start to take on a Mike Tyson-like mythical stature. But….. Mir catches him in a sub and all of the sudden it’s Mir who is in line for a title shot and is on his way to TUF stardom.

Brazillian Jui Juitsu saved Frank Mir from the beating of his life that night. Fortunately for Brock, Heath Herring doesn’t possess the BJJ skills of Frank Mir. Herring is a good at wrestling (not going to help him against Lesnar), Sambo (he’s no Emelienenko brother at Sambo), and Muay Thai (Lesnar has no neck to put in the clinch).

So, how can Herring beat Lesnar? Experience is his advantage. But once you get punched in the face and start to get mauled by a bear, resorting to his skill set of Sambo, Muay Thai and wrestling isn’t going to help him. He has to want it about 10 times more than Brock and we can’t see that happening.

Brock is from Minnesota, wants to win and doesn’t want to go home with Sable (at right) a loser, 0-2 in the UFC.

Important point: our sources have told us that Brock has a five fight deal and said he might lose his first few fights before figuring MMA out, but we don’t think he’s going to lose this one. Herring said he knew exactly what Lesnar was going to do. Charge, get on top of Herring and “go Donkey Kong” on him, raining down ground and pound with lightning quick punches. However, knowing what’s coming and doing something about it are two completely different things. Guess what Heath, it’s coming.

Herring’s got a lot of heart and has fought a lot of top talented fighters. But he’s lost every time he’s fought a top tier talent. He’s lost three times to Big Nogueira, lost to Fedor (no shame there), Cro-Crop (OK), Jake O’Brien (ouch), Sam Gecko (ouch). His big wins include Brad Imes (total stiff- literally a human punching bag), Gary Goodridge (no clue) and Kongo (the jury’s still out on him). So we’re not sure how much getting beat up by the world’s best fighters will help him against a bear mauling. Lesnar is too big, strong, powerful and has spent the past six months working on every submission defense possible. Face it MMA fans, stop the hate. The sport needs a freak of nature heavyweight and Lesnar could be the guy.

We predict another bear mauling and are betting $675 to win $250.
