Earlier this week we implored newbie MMA fans to check out Spike’s “Best of Pride” series, as a good way to get up to speed on Takanori Gomi; the former Pride champion and dude that is fighting Kenny Florian on March 31st. If you read MMA Fix regularly then you also know we miss the good ole ‘Pride days’, back when Wanderlei Silva was stomping out opponents like a sh-t-bag on fire…

Anyways, for new fans to the sport that are checking out action from Pride for the first time, you’ve probably come to the stunned realization that yup, ‘ultimate fighting’ in Japan is a little different than what you see in the UFC. On his personal blog recently, UFC color man and comedian Joe Rogan wrote an interesting post about Pride rules, not just about the fact that they allowed foot stomps to the head etc, but also how the organization judged fights; here’s a sample:

What they were allowed to do however, is stomp each other in the head while they’re down and soccer kick each other in the face while they’re down. THAT is some pretty brutal shit, and there’s something about that added element of danger that just cranks the dial up on the excitement meter considerably when you’re watching it.

Check out the rest here.

If you’ve ever had the unfortunate experience of vacating a large building during a fire alarm (elementary school doesn’t count) you might want to check out Joe Rogan’s latest blog. Not only does the comedian and MMA commentator accurately describe the inner conflict you experience during such circumstances, where you try to keep your “chimp” instincts in check and thus don’t blast your way through the masses like George Costanza, the blog entry is littered with hilarity.

Case in point this golden yarn:

There was a sleazy little rub and tug massage parlor on the side street across from the hotel and one of their “masseuses” stepped out for a cigarette and to take a peek at all the commotion. She was wearing a short skirt, and had some disaster of a tattoo on her fat tits that you could see spilling out over the top of her sports bra. She looked over and made eye contact with me, and as she took a drag off her cigarette I imagined the smell of a thousand cocks on her hand mixing with the fumes of the Newport she was smoking, and I thought to myself, “That might be the saddest smell in the whole world.”

With a teaser like that how can you not read on?

Comedian Joe Rogan certainly is a keener when it comes to doing some ‘let me have a go’ research, as in a recent video the UFC commentator posted on his Twitter account, Rogan takes a pee pee and drinks it. (Although after watching hundreds of people eat the equivalent of rat brains and ring worms during his time with Fear Factor, a little urine here and there probably seems like a gourmet meal) Rogan did the dirty deed while doing a live, in-studio, radio interview.

Drinking one’s piss is ’all the rage’ now with several notable MMA fighters, including light-heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida, so hell, something must be magical about tossing down your wiz… Wonder if Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva have looked into it? (Although they’re likely grateful they just didn’t piss themselves after getting KTFO by the champion)

Luke Cummo of “Ultimate Fighter” Season 2 fame (dude who rocks the ninja outfit) is also a big supporter of ‘urine therapy.’ Sure, Luke appears to be a little eccentric, but at least he drinks his own piss rather than spraying it in someone else’s fruit platter. (See TUF season 8 episode 8, or rather, don’t.)

The video also shows Rogan clearing out his nostrils by firing water through it with just a ‘tad’ of hydrogen peroxide….Can you think of a better way to ‘clean house’ up there?

During Saturday night’s UFC 100 broadcast, as commentator Joe Rogan was pondering who will face welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre next, UFC matchmaker Joe Silva apparently informed the comedian that the winner of the upcoming Mike Swick, Martin Kampmann bout will determine the division’s #1 contender. (If memory serves, Silva made the statement as Rogan was asking who is left in the division to really challenge GSP, who at the time, was taking challenger Thiago Alves to the mat more often than the mop used at the event to clean up the blood)

Yesterday the UFC officially announced that the Swick, Kampmann fight will take place September 19th in Dallas, Texas.

Although no other ‘official’ statements have been released as to what’s riding on the upcoming bout, according to a report today from MMAJunkie, sources have confirmed to the site that the fight will in fact determine who will fight GSP next. (Which, based off the champ’s latest performances, is like trying to fight your way to the front of the line, only to be greeted by a dozen orbital bone smashing elbows when you arrive- some people are suckers for punishment)

In all seriousness, although GSP has now knocked off many of the prominent fighters in the 170lb. division, both Swick and Kampmann could make for solid challengers. Kampmann is coming off a win over former WEC champ Carlos Condit, and Swick has gone undefeated since dropping down to welterweight, winning 4 straight. (In fact, last December, Swick dropped GSP’s long time buddy and training partner Jonathan Goulet faster than the Canadian could say ‘bonjour.’)

Due to the severe groin injury St.Pierre incurred during his Unanimous Decision victory over Alves, he is not expected to compete again in 2009.

If we saw JoRo at a bar, we’d tell the bartendar to buy him “one of whatever he’s having…on us.” Then when the bartendar gives Joe the drink and points our way, we’d give a nod to Joe signifying that we were the ones that in fact bought him the drink. Joe would probably then raise the drink up and half-smile, effectively telling us, “Hey, I appreciate that. Solid.”

Later in the evening, after maybe we downed a few shots of liquid courage, we’d walk over to Joe and say something like, “Hey man, you’re awesome. Seriously we’re like your biggest fans. Maybe we should all hang out some time, catch a ball game or something. Wouldn’t that be fun?” And after Rogan completely ignores that request and carries on with whatever awesome thing he was doing, we’d all go home and totally bang the shit out of some skanks we picked up at the bar because we’re not gay you’re gay.
