Betting Analysis: Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer

Mac Danzig vs. Josh “My” Neer…ummm really? Hopefully everyone is as
excited about this match up as we are. And by the way, we’re joking. Talk
about your classic free on SPIKE TV fight. It’s really hard for us to get
excited about watching a couple of 155er’s who have no shot in hell at
ever becoming champions.

The only real reason to be interested in this one at all, we guess, is to
see how Josh “My” Neer handles his recent adversities. Neer needs a
victory really bad. He had a much publicized run in with the law on
January 1st where he got pinched for DUI. FYI – you don’t drink and drive
on NYE! That’s liking fucking Paris Hilton without a rub. You’re just
begging to get the herp, just like you’re begging to get a DUI. Neer has a
lot of talent but who knows where his mind is for this fight. Usually when
guys have problems in there personal lives it tends to carry over in the
octagon.

However, Neer is a very dangerous striker who you can’t sleep on. In a
lot of ways Josh Neer reminds us of a poor mans Clay Guida, while although
The Carpenter is a Fix Favorite, that’s still not exactly a compliment.
Neer is constantly moving forward and brings non-stop pressure. Although
Neer has been susceptible to submissions in the past, he is a very
experienced fighter (30 career fights) who understand what positions to
avoid on the ground. If this fight stays standing Neer has a slight edge.
His hands are very heavy and if Danzig decides to throw with him he runs
the risk of getting put to sleep.

The tutelage of Randy Couture and the boys over at Xtreme Couture in Las
Vegas has helped TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig become a well-rounded fighter.
Mac is not the type of fighter who will overwhelm you with speed or
strength, but he is always in the right position and ready to pounce if
you make a mistake. Danzig has very good submission skills (10 in his
career) and his boxing skills get better each time we see him fight.

Both fighters are coming off loses and they both need wins. Mac Danzig
will 100% come into this fight prepared with a solid game plan. That’s how
they roll at Xtreme Couture. Neer on the other hand has been dealing with
personal issues so we aren’t so sure what to expect from him. In the end,
Mac Danzig will do just enough to win. Mac Danzig by split decision

We will bet $270 to win $200.

Wow. Ok. Listen, we’ve made bad choices too, but they usually involve a girl who weighs 50lbs over the acceptible limit (so, like, 150lbs) or perhaps an extra 8-ball that we reeaaaaaaally didn’t want to do but Alexandra our model friend from Brazil forced on us. In other words, our bad choices don’t usually involve endangering other people’s lives–just ours.

Watch Josh’s interview below. Side note, Josh is still scheduled to appear on the February 7 UFC Fight Night Card. Side side note, bet on UFC here. Side side side note, extra apologizes from us that the embedded video appears to play some cheesy local ad when our page loads. We decided to keep it embedded anyway. Hey, everybody makes bad choices.

(Editor’s Note: OK, we couldn’t handle this video auto-playing when you hit the page anymore, so it’s not embedded now…watch it here.)

Josh “My” Neer was arrested Thursday morning for driving while intoxicated. This was after he led Iowa police on a 15-minute high-speed chase, traveling at times up to 100 mph.

Now if he was just trying to get the fuck out of Iowa, totally understandable. But if he risked his life and the lives of others because he was just drunk and didn’t want to get arrested, not cool. Not cool at all, Josh Neer.

My Neer’s management team released a statement to MMAJunkie.com asking everyone to “reserve judgement.” Read the full statement here.

Betting Analysis: Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer

TUF Season 5 winner Nate Diaz has torn through every cupcake UFC matchmaker Joe Silva has put in front of him. Diaz is riding a four-fight UFC win streak and has made it look pretty easy, winning each via submission.

Diaz has publicly said that he wants some tougher competition, but for whatever reason the best he can get is a Main Event fight at Ultimate Fight Night against Josh Neer. Let’s face it, Nick Diaz is probably never going to be a champion at 155, but if he wants to step up against better competition then give him what he wants.

Nate Diaz’s all-around fighting skills seem to be pretty strong, but it is tough to determine exactly how skilled this guy really is because of his level of competition. His victories have come against the likes of Manny Gamburyan, Junior Assuncao, Alvin Robinson, and Kurt Pellagrino. That’s on par with beating your first four opponents on Wii Boxing, including the guy with the mullet who just stands there and let’s you punch him in the face repeatedly.

No doubt that Diaz is a ground wizard with seven of his nine wins coming via submission, but we are yet to see what happens if Nate Diaz is forced to keep a fight standing. Eventually he is going to need to demonstrate he has a standup game if he wants to become an elite fighter at 155.

Josh “The Dentist” Neer has a ton of MMA experience and has definitely fought tougher dudes than Nate Diaz. Josh has wins against Melvin Guillard, Joe “Daddy” Stevenson, and most recently Din Thomas. Moving down from Welterweight to Lightweight has proved to be the difference for Josh. He is on a three fight win streak in the division and finally feels like he has found a home.

Josh Neer is as tough as they come, but he will want to keep this fight on his feet. Diaz wants this fight on the ground and get another submission, so this will likely be a style fight, favoring whichever fighter will be able to execute the game plan.

In the end, we think Neer will be another stepping stone for Diaz. We think the UFC is bringing Diaz along slowly and perhaps wants him to get more wins and experience while waiting for the division to open up a little. We don’t want to put a ton of coin on this because Diaz is still a little green, so we’ll just bet $440 to win $200

Bet on Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer and put your money where your mouth is.
