We are pretty proud of our beautiful Gina Carano who is again helping to bolster the MMA sport by starring in her own mainstream action film and we’re also proud because we’re 97 percent sure that she doesn’t take steroids. Exercising their constitutional rights, Zuffa filed a lawsuit along with several MMA fans and fighters including Jon Jones, Frankie Edgar, Gina Carano and Matt Hamill on Tuesday U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York against state attorney general Eric Schneiderman and Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.

Zuffa attorney, Barry Friedman explained to Yahoo! Sports that the reasons given for banning MMA events in New York are a violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendmants. Friedman stated:

“They banned it because they thought MMA conveyed a message of violence. We don’t think that is the message that MMA conveys. I just spent the last few days with a lot of fighters and I spent a lot of time with them over the last few months. They will, as you can see in the complaint, talk about a lot of other values that are present [in MMA] like discipline, courage and respect for an opponent…. But even if violence was the message, New York still can’t ban MMA because it doesn’t like that message.”

“On safety, what they’re saying is, ‘You can’t do this because it’s not safe. Any time the government says you can’t do something that involves your liberty, that is a 14th Amendment claim because it is denying people of their life or liberty without due process. And it’s also a discrimination claim… Why ban mixed martial arts as unsafe when the data shows it’s at least as safe, or safer than a lot of other sports, like boxing, football, ice hockey, Alpine skiing, equestrian sports? It turns out the most dangerous thing you can do is be a flyer in cheerleading. So you ask, what parts of the Constitution cover that, and it’s the equal protection clause.”

The man has a point.

The Hollywood Reporter posted “5 Things to Know About the ‘Haywire’ Star.” For us Gina Carano experts, there’s not much we learn from here, except that director Steven Soderbergh must have seen her fight before casting her in 2009. Soderbergh says:

I’ve never seen someone like her fight — in a cage.”

I don’t know if Soderbergh is an avid MMA fan and seen lots of fights and thinks Gina Carano is a cut above the rest or if he means he’s never seen a chick MMA fighter as hot as Carano. But I’m guessing the latter.

The other interesting part of the post was from Channing Tatum, who apparently had trouble hitting Carano until…

Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson added Julie Kedzie vs. Alexis Davis to their fight card! Though we were all saddened that Gina Carano wasn’t medically cleared for her June return to Strikeforce—hey, what the hell? How come we were all down on Nate Marquardt‘s junk (*Note I said down, ’cause his testosterone is low…whatever, that joke totally went over your head) to give us the truth and we don’t even know what kept Carano from fighting??? We are so sexist! Regardless, thank you Strikeforce for this match up between two pretty smokin’ hot tough ladies, as you can see by my side by side comparison above.

We’re not excited because Alexis Davis and Julie Kedzie are pretty. If you’ve watched any of those Ultimate Female Sexual Wrestling porn videos, you’d know “pretty” isn’t exactly a requirement to get excited. We’re actually excited to see two very capable women slug it out, roll around, and choke each other in hopes that maybe one day Dana White will welcome them into the UFC Octagon.

Gina Carano‘s team sent a text message to Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker that said:

“Gina is feeling much better after having undergone some medical attention and is looking forward to getting back into training very soon. She would like to express thanks to Team Jackson for a wonderful training camp, Strikefore, and the fans.”

It’s likely we can shoot down those pregnancy rumors… And anyway, apparently some preggo fighters cans still fight, we assume since some quack cleared this woman. So what else could it be as to why she wasn’t medically cleared to fight this past Saturday? Usually when fighters aren’t cleared, we are told they have bulging neck discs or (non-STD related) herpes. But we have yet to receive any explanation from Carano’s camp and it may be we never will… and that just blows.

Without further comment, Scott Coker announced in the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum press conference today that Gina Carano was not medically cleared to participate in her scheduled June 18th bout and her fight against Sarah D’Alelio would be replaced by KJ Noons vs. Masvidal. At the press conference today, Coker said he hadn’t spoken directly with Carano but that her representative released the statement:

“I’m seriously disappointed not to be fighting on June 18. I’d like to thank Greg Jackson and Team Jackson for such an amazing camp. I hope this is only a brief setback.”

A replacement for Carano has not been announced and no further information has been released regarding her medical condition. Thus, rumors are born and bred and one in particular is that Gina Carano is pregnant. We will have to wait for further announcements or maybe we can pay off a close friend of Carano’s to get the scoop. In the meantime, D’Alelio tweeted: “DAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMIT!!!”

Well, with a reaction like that, we don’t expect to see D’Alelio invited to the baby shower.

We know we asked Strikeforce for a hot chick to face Gina Carano…and that’s not to say we didn’t get one, but… There’s a reason someone nicknamed Sarah D’Alelio, “The Monster” right? I mean, don’t call us jerks! We didn’t do it!

MMAJunkie says the two are reportedly set to meet in the cage this June 18th in Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum. The article clarifies the fight has yet to be signed by either party, but should the tilt happen, both fighters will have an axe to grind as each of their last fights were the first losses suffered on their professional records.
